Fenna's font published in the KHTTbook: Arabic Type for beginners

Posted on by fenna zamouri

As mentioned in previous articles...my trip to Dubai in November was one of research and designing an arabic font. Huda Smitshuijzen Abifarès, founder of the khtt foundation, published a book with some of the typefaces designed during this period: an illustrated guidebook on arabic typedesign. Here below some spreads of my work.
The design of my font is still ongoing... in order to perfect the concept of the basic forms of the kufi based type. Thanks to Huda Smitshuijzen AbifarèsMajid AlyousefKhaJag ApelianLara Assouad KhouryYara KhouryKristyan Sarkis, Wissam Shawkat & Pascal Zoghbi.

A highly illustrated bilingual guidebook on Arabic type design as taught in a series of workshops organized by the Khatt Foundation and hosted by Tashkeel, in 2011 and 2012. It presents step-by-step instructions on the design principles and tools of Arabic type design, with detailed tutorials by some of the most renown specialists in the field of contemporary Arabic type design. In addition, it showcases the creative process through case studies of the fonts produced during these workshops. These fonts are presented as sources of inspiration for new and experimental Arabic typefaces.

The impossible MACULA

What a dynamic font...

Macula can be described as the ‘impossible typeface’, since its design is based on the concept of impossible objects. This optical illusion was explored into great detail in the 1930’s by the Swedish artist Oscar Reutersvärd, and simultaneously made very famous by Dutch artist M.C. Escher.designed by deisgned by Jacques Le Bailly, 2012
